Research Analyst,
Healthcare Technology

The Digitalis Research Group creates, aggregates, and leverages information to provide knowledge for near- and long-term investment opportunities at Digitalis Ventures.

Reporting to the Head of Research, the Research Analyst will play a foundational role in building Digitalis’ knowledge creation and management capability for HCIT, technology-enabled services, and consumer health. This role is an opportunity for an exceptional researcher to work alongside our investment team to build an industry-leading research function that will inform investment decisions and strategy, advise existing portfolio companies on route-to-market and commercialization strategies, and originate and develop new theses to help shape the future of healthcare technology innovation.

Responsibilities
• Key contributor for the design, build, and implementation of a firm-wide research function
• Collect, collate, and contextualize the data required to identify and support the most promising teams, businesses, and technologies in the healthcare technology sector
• Develop and support near and long-term investment thesis development for select opportunity areas of interest
• Become an expert in novel and emerging business models, the healthcare regulatory landscape, and technology areas of interest
• Identify and interview industry subject matter experts, key opinion leaders, physicians, and management from early-stage companies – and use this external network to diligence new opportunities and support portfolio companies
• Stay current on key trends in healthcare technology and represent Digitalis at industry conferences
• Complete detailed quantitative assessments, including market sizing, and building and analyzing financial models
• Complete detailed qualitative assessments, including customer discovery interviews, market mapping, and industry analysis


Preferred qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in healthcare investment banking, buy-side equity research, venture capital, private equity, or a relevant operating role.
• A knowledge and passion for the early-stage healthcare ecosystem
• Interest in partnering with and supporting early-stage entrepreneurs and portfolio companies
• Strong writing skills and a well-developed understanding of financial concepts and modeling skills
• Hard work ethic, attention to detail, self-motivated, organized, intellectually curious


Compensation and Benefits
• Expected annual base pay of $175,000 to $225,000 (pay may vary based on experience or other relevant factors)

This role is an opportunity for an exceptional researcher to work alongside our investment team to build an industry-leading research function that will inform investment decisions and strategy, advise existing portfolio companies on R&D and commercial strategies, and originate and develop new theses to help shape the future of life sciences innovation.

Responsibilities
• Key contributor for the design, build, and implementation of a firm-wide research function
• Collect, collate, and contextualize the data required to identify and support the most promising teams and technologies in the life sciences sector
• Become an expert in particular therapeutic areas, therapeutic modalities, and other technology areas of interest
• Identify and interview industry subject matter experts, key opinion leaders, physicians, academic researchers, management from early-stage companies – and use this external network to diligence new opportunities and support portfolio companies
• Stay current on key trends in the life sciences by reading scientific publications, integrating automation tools, and attending scientific and industry conferences
• Complete detailed market assessments, including current standards of care, competitive landscapes, evaluation of unmet needs, and other deep scientific and clinical due diligence
• Advise portfolio companies on topics that might include target selection, pipeline and clinical strategy, business development, and new applications of novel technologies


Preferred qualifications
• MD and/or PhD in scientific discipline, or equivalent research experience
• 5+ years experience in consulting, equity research, or relevant operating role
• Passion for scientific and technical research, combined with a commercial orientation
• Interest in translational innovation and partnering with early-stage entrepreneurs
• Strong writing skills required, programming experience a plus
• Hard work ethic, attention to detail, self-motivated, organized, intellectually curious
• Fields of particular interest include immunology, oncology, metabolism, bioinformatics, and bioengineering

Operations Associate

The Digitalis Ventures Operations Group organizes and administers all business practices of the firm, with the goal to create the highest level of effectiveness and efficiency.

Reporting to the Managing Partner leading operations, we are seeking a detailed-oriented and data-focused individual for the role of Operations Associate. The Operations Associate will assist in building and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the firm, ensuring our information is accessible and organized, and our processes are running smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
• Manage, organize and update our on-line and off-line files, records and contracts.
• Manage information technology including the reliability of the systems and infrastructure, and supporting the technology needs of the investment and research teams.
• Manage office operations, including facilities management, procurement of supplies and equipment, and ensuring that the offices run smoothly and efficiently.
• Collaborate with the investment and research teams on firm initiatives including, preparing materials, coordinating events and assisting with communication processes.
• Develop and implement operation policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in our information and operations.
• Provide HR and staffing support.
• Support the firm’s social media activities.


Preferred qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree is required.
• 3+ years experience in business operations.
• Proficiency in data and information management.
• Strong organization and multitasking skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effective in a team environment, as well as independently.
• Positive and proactive mindset.
• Located in greater New York City area.
